Mucho Gusto Much the Best in Lewis

Sent off as the 1-2 favorite in the field of five sophomores, Michael Petersen's Mucho Gusto made short work of Saturday's G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita. The son of Mucho Macho Man, ridden by Joe Talamo for trainer Bob Baffert, splashed under the wire a 4 3/4-length winner to complete 1 1/16 miles over the sloppy course in 1:41.81. Mucho Gusto's win earned him 10 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, while runner-up Gunmetal Gray earned four points and third-pl

    Pedigree Insights: Mucho Gusto

With its history now extending to 35 years, we’ve seen the Breeders’ Cup Classic arguably develop into the supreme test for the American dirt horse, especially when it attracts the crème de la crème of more than one age group. As such, it should also be the perfect testing ground for the next generation of stallions. So has this theory become reality? It's Official, Mucho Gusto is First Stakes Winner for Mucho Macho Man

Jumping from a maiden race to a graded stakes is difficult enough, but Michael Lund Petersen's Mucho Gusto didn't get any breaks in the $100,000 Bob Hope Stakes (G3), either. The Bob Baffert-trained Mucho Macho Man colt got squeezed a bit at the start of the seven-furlong dirt test Nov. 17, set a quick pace, and was still able to repel a two-pronged challenge in the turn to win by 1 1/2 lengths. MUCHO GUSTO (Mucho Macho Man) lived up to his name and then some with an ultra-impressive debut victory at Los Alamitos Thursday to become his freshman sire (by Macho Uno)’s fourth winner and first ‘TDN Rising Star.’ Hammered down to even-money favoritism, the $625,000 EASMAY buy broke on top from his rail draw and was just loping along under a motionless Joe Talamo as he zipped through a first quarter in :21.96. He floated out three wide turning for home, but was still going
