MUCHO MACHO MAN finished 3rd in a gallant effort in the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby. It was a tremendous effort by MMM and we are so proud of his performance. Rajiv Maragh rode a beautiful race and MMM was coming on strong at the finish. Congratulations to Kathy Ritvo and her staff for their preparation in getting MMM to this race in such superb condition. Kathy trained this horses to win and it showed on Saturday.
I apologize to all of MMM’s fans for not being able to update the web site prior to the race. Unfortunately there never seemed to be enough time each day to get everything done.
The weeks before the race were amazing and there was so much to do each day from getting tickets, parking passes, our racing license and of course paying the entry fee. It was an amazing experience and it was everything I dreamed it would be. The folks at Churchill Downs were wonderful and made us feel so special. We owe them a great deal of thanks for making our time in Kentucky such a wonderful experience. From Becky in the ticket office to Barry our host we thank everyone for all you help.
MMM came back from the race in great shape and he ate well late last night and had a good night’s rest. MMM was shipped by plane to Belmont this morning and he arrived safe and sound to the barn. MMM will get settled in and a final decision will be made later this week on running in The Preakness.
I WANT TO THANK ALL MMM’S FANS FOR THEIR KIND WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT, CHEERS ON RACEDAY AT CHURCHILL DOWNS AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY. YOUR SUPPORT HAS BEEN OVERWELLMING.
We also want to congratulate Animal Kingdom and Nehro on their great success in this years Kentucky Derby.
The 2 year olds are coming along very well and therefore we have decided to ship them this week to Belmont so that Kathy can get them going in the training program a little early. The two fillies had an easy 4 furlong breeze in 51 flat on Saturday. We are very pleased with their progress and thank Gayle Woods for her great care and training of the horses over the past 6 weeks.
We hope to put a name with the faces of our 2 year olds later this week.
