Claimed for $50,000, TAX Earns Birth in the Kentucky Derby as Career Earnings Pass $300,000
TAX (KY) ( ARCH - TOLL BY GIANT'S CAUSEWAY ) claimed for $50,000 stamped his ticket to the Kentucky Derby with a powerful second place finish to Tacitus in Saturday's G2 Wood Memorial, earning 40 additional points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
Breaking quickly for the lead from post position 1, jockey Junior Alvarado let TAX settle in well behind pacesetters Joevia and Not That Brady before making a powerful move to take the lead turning for home where he fought on as Tacitus pulled ahead and won by one length.
TAX is owned by R.A. Hill Stables, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Corms Racing and Hugh Lynch and trained by Danny Gargan.
This is the second trip to the Kentucky Derby for Reeves Thoroughbred Racing whose Mucho Macho Man finished third in the 2011 Kentucky Derby and later went on to win the 2013 Breeders Cup Classic.
